Hospital Birthing

Go-To Bag Checklist

Because being prepared means peace of mind during one of life’s most important moments!

Whether it’s your first birth or your second, having a well-packed hospital bag ensures comfort, convenience, and confidence for both you and your baby.

For Mom – Labor & Delivery

  • Hospital Paperwork & ID – Insurance cards, ID, birth plan.

  • Comfortable Robe / Gown – Easy to move and nurse in.

  • Loose Pajamas / Nightgown – For postpartum comfort.

  • Socks & Slippers – Hospitals can be cold; slip-on is best.

  • Nursing Bra / Tank Tops – Easy access for feeding.

  • Nipple Cream & Breast Pads – For early nursing comfort.

  • Maternity Pads / Heavy Flow Pads – Hospital provides some, but extra is nice.

  • Toiletries – Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, lip balm, face wipes.

  • Hair Ties / Headband – Keep hair out of your face.

  • Phone & Charger / Power Bank – Stay connected and capture memories.

  • Water Bottle & Snacks – Hydration is essential; snacks for energy.

  • Glasses / Contact Lenses – If needed.

  • Small Blanket / Pillow – From home for comfort.

  • Earplugs / Eye Mask – To rest when hospital is noisy.

For Baby – First 24 Hours

  • Going-Home Outfit – One set plus hat and socks.

  • Receiving Blankets / Swaddle – Hospital usually provides some, but extra is cozy.

  • Diapers & Wipes – Hospitals provide some; having extras is convenient.

  • Pacifier – If you plan to use.

  • Baby Mittens – To prevent scratching.

Optional Comfort & Extras

  • Massage Oils / Lotion – For relaxation.

  • Music / Headphones – Labor playlist or white noise.

  • Camera / Memory Cards – Capture the first moments.

  • Birth Plan Copies – For nurses and doctors.

  • Essential Oils / Aromatherapy – If allowed in your hospital.

  • Comfort Items – Favorite socks, small pillow, or sentimental item.

  • Pack two bags if possible:

    1. Labor Bag – Essentials for delivery.

    2. Postpartum Bag – Essentials for mom and baby after delivery.

  • Keep your bag ready by 36–37 weeks so you’re prepared for early labor.

  • Label items if helpful, and include a checklist for quick packing.
